Well a little rear end maint this week revealed from what I can gather is the original rear axle and ring and pinion. The R&P reads like this.
2 GM 3853010 11 39 7 69 I4
The rear axle code reads.
CBT 0829 G1 E
Posi plates need to be replaced as the fluid change didn't help the sometimes snapping when turning from a stop. Our Wynn's salesman gave me a synthetic kit to put in it for free,so I guess all that it cost me is another $3.00 gasket to reseal the rear end again.

The Novas are pretty neat. We drove to Houston two weeks ago and picked up a 1970 Nova L78 with bench seat and automatic transmission. The car has the original engine, transmission and 4.10 rear. It's black/black, needs some work, but essentially a nice original car. It belongs to a member of this forum.

I'll need to check the rear. Original owner put a 4.56 in the unit for drag racing.

Ok, I think the 4.10 rear in '70 would be a special ordered item - which is why I asked about the code. The Deuces have these special ordered rears with a unique code only found on the copo novas, but I would not be surprised if some big blocks with special ordered 4.10 rears would have received the same code.
