Looks pretty black to me. I agree there was definitely variations of the sheen and tint of the black used, but any original wheels I have ever seen were either true black, or so dark of a gray that they looked black until you stuck your nose up close enough to bump it off the center cap.
My personal opinion is that black is ok, and very dark gray could also be correct, but they should "look" black from about 15-20 feet away. If they still look gray from that distance, they are too light.

Can't argue with that, and I also agree with Schonye; they tend to fade over the years.
Now the next question; which color went on first; Silver or 'the other color' ? Has anyone tried sanding through either color to see what's under it?

I agree with Joe that you may question the degree of black, or the flatness of it, but it should look black, not grey.

Just picked up a 70 ls5 chevelle yesterday that is 100% original.The car has been in storage since 1977 and the rims are definetly black. Rick took some pics so if he does not post some,i will later.
