60 Minutes segment-Return of the Camaro

Last Sunday night 60 Minutes Steve Croft interviewed GM CEO Rick Wagner regarding the financial problems GM is having. Noting the Camaro was voted the number 1 car at the Detroit auto show Croft asked Wagner about the return of the Camaro in 08. Wagner's response was " we would be brain dead not to build it ".
Anybody still have any doubt about the prompt return of the Camaro ?

Yea 68l30 I know what you mean. They dug themselves into the hole their in. Now part of Wagner's ( and Lutz's message also ) message is that GM is counting in part on the new Camaro to get them out of trouble.

They ARE braindead, that's why they haven't built it yet.
Just like 1967, GM will wait two years to see how well the
"new cars" do in the market. No vision left there.

I kinda hope they dont bring it back because they will proubally screw up the camaro name just like dodge did when they changed there body styles in the 70s there just now past couple years becoming popular again because it took that long to get the bad rep gone this is just my opion though

When I first saw that thing, I wasn't impressed, but the more times I see it, the better I like it. I hope they get a few built, before their ship goes down. I'd like to see the big three have one last good year building Mustangs, Camaros, & Challengers, before we're all forced to drive switch grass powered cars. Are goats powered by switch grass?

The base car will have to be $20-$25K maximum. The GM brass really have themselves sold on the Camaro. To me the Camaro market will be too narrow to make GM the kind of money that they need. A Chevelle would be more practical. It would still be retro yet appeal to a lot more people who want a car with some back seat room and a trunk. I could picture us driving a NEW 427 Chevelle.

The big thing that was not discussed during the Wagner interview and has not been mentioned so far in the above responses is the future cost of fuel. I think that by the end of this year , after the November elections, fuel ( including gasoline, diesel and natural gas ) will be up by 20 percent from todays prices. In three to four years up by about 40-50 percent. We will be in a fuel crisis. The Big 3 will be seroiuly injured. Anybody that has a business that uses a lot of fuel will be seriously injured also. Shame is our leaders in Wasington are doing nothing about this. I think diesel needs to have some kind of price controls. Almost everything we use and consume gets to us on diesel truck.
