I agree that the 402's are ripe for a skyrocket in pricing. In fact, they are already jumping up. I am assuming that the stated 500 prod nummber is for 4 speeds? I am sure that there were many more than 500 402's made. Here are the prod numbers from firstgenmc:
1970 Total Production: Sport Coupe 142,153 SS 454 Package 3,823 Total Monte Carlo Production 145,976 Automatic Level Control (SS only) 3,823 330 hp Turbo-Jet 400 V8 (actually 402 ci) 7,456 360 hp Turbo-Jet 454 V8 (SS only) 3,823 3-Speed Manual 545 4-Speed Manual 1,428 1971 Total Production: Sport Coupe 126,681 SS 454 Package** 1,919 Total Monte Carlo Production 128,600 300 hp Turbo-Jet 400 V8 (actually 402 ci) 8,633 355 hp Turbo-Jet 454 V8** 1,772 3-Speed Manual Transmission 280 4-Speed Manual Transmission 349 All data courtesy of http://www.firstgenerationmontecarlo...nnumbers.shtml Rich

Ooops, forgot to add, for the conspiricy theorists out there:
<<<<<snip>>>>>>&g t; * Excludes 16,003 units listed as Canadian imports. ** Why are the SS-454 and 454 production numbers different here? There are a lot of crazy rumors that there were SS cars that did not come with 454 engines. Our stand here at the FGMCC is that the other 147 cars are Canadian built 454's which were not added to the total of 454 engines, but were added to the total number of SS454 cars built. <<<<end snip>>>>>>>>
