When I was 16 my mom was looking for a new car. We were at Nortell Olds in Chicago in February of 1972 and they had two left over 1971 Cutlass SX convertibles in their inventory. These were both 455 powered bucket seat white interior Cutlass SX cars. Since I would be driving this car also, you would think this would be a pretty neat car for a 16 year old kid and he'd be pushing his mom to get it, she liked the car very much. They were willing to cut the price drastically to move these left over 1971's. The catch; both cars were PLAYBOY PINK. I figured that I'd get hassled to no end if I showed up in High School with a pink car. We ended up with a 1972 orange 442. Anyone in the Chicago area remember these Playboy Pink 1971 Cutlass SX cars roaming the streets? I understand that Nortell Olds had ordered a few of them. One was at the Olds Nationals in Dallas a few years ago.

I worked at a Transmission shop in the Western Burbs in 1980.There was a PlayBoy Pink 71 SX white int.Convert.w/Auto. trans.that came in needing service one day.We all thought Earl Scheib painted it for the owner, but he later said he bought it for his wife new from Nortell Olds like that.He said something about a limited production run in that color.
He told us it would be for sale once we finished, but no one there looked into it any further. |

I painted a car that color but we didnt like the shade when we opened the can and poured a little really dark blue '70 VW color if I recall right we had on the bench in, was a killer shade of pink, had lots of compliments on it, will try to find a old pic and scan it.

I initially told my mom to get it and we could have it painted a different color. She said the only reason she'd get it is because it was pink.

The car in question was a white car originally if I remember correctly. I looked at it last in about 1999 or so. It was restored by Year One and was their catalog cover car way back when these cars could be bought for mid-5 figure numbers !
