Look at the post by Rick Cell above yours. He was saying the guy had a supposedly LS-6 built in Oct and then you state that you bought an LS-6 from the guy. Perhaps a mis-read the two posts, but it appeared to be the same car, hence my question and confusion.

Ah, got it. I can see how you might make that association. I only meant that he's apparently flipped a few. Mine is Cortez Silver, has GM Canada docs and owner history back to 1972. Still searching for that elusive original owner! The car was sold originally in Toronto, then went to Thunder Bay with the second owner where it stayed until finding it's way back to Toronto in 1999.

Hey Kevin, Does your LS6 Chevelle have the original motor and tranny? [/ QUOTE ] Original VIN stamped M22. Motor was replaced under warranty in '73 with a correct CE LS6. The car was in the hands of the second owner at that time. According to him it was burning oil, the dealer wanted to rebuild it but he demanded a new motor. Apparently they were able to find one. It came with a 5yr/50,000mi. warranty if you can believe that! He probably thought he got a great deal at the time! It must have been strong because it ran 12.8 second quarter miles at Minnesota Dragway in '74-'75.

Hi: in 1978 I looked at buying that LS6 Silver Chevelle, instead I purchased a 1969 gold Copo Camaro. These 2 cars raced at Jane and Finch (Toronto). I was told that the Camaro lost because the Chevelle was running slicks.

Sounds like an excuse as to the reason the Camaro lost. ![]()

I was told that the Camaro lost because the Chevelle was running slicks. [/ QUOTE ] Silly me... here I am thinking Jane and Finch is a dragstrip. ![]() ![]() Jane and Finch From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jane and Finch is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, centred around the intersection of two arterial roads, Jane Street and Finch Avenue West. The area is roughly bounded by Highway 400 to the west, Black Creek to the east, Sheppard Avenue West to the south, and Shoreham Drive or Steeles Avenue West to the north. The abundance of high-rise apartment towers in this area make it one of Toronto's most densely populated neighbourhoods. Black Creek Pioneer Village and the main campus of York University are immediately east of the neighbourhood and are northeast of the intersection. The Jane and Finch area is widely reputed to be Toronto's most dangerous and economically depressed neighbourhood. Long considered to be a "social morass in which violent drug dealers and gang members terrorize low-income families and new immigrants in rundown highrises", the Jane-Finch corridor is also one of Toronto's most culturally diverse areas, home to people from over 80 different countries. Indeed, the Jane and Finch area is a popular residential choice for many new immigrants to Canada because rents tend to be fairly low. Besides these populations concentrated in the area's apartment buildings and rental townhouses, the area also includes sections of single-family homes, often duplexes, and individually-owned condominium townhouses. These sections are decidedly more upper working class or even middle class, and have historically been identified significantly with a northward extension of Toronto's Italian-Canadian clusters, which have since spread still further north into newer and wealthier suburbs north of Steeles in York Region, notably the city of Vaughan.

SilverLS6 - I am glad to see all the work I put into gathering the history along with the testimonials were passed on after I sold it. The car bounced around a bit in Thunder Bay during it's hey day. The one unique fact I found very interesting was that it seemed to be sold whenever the current owner at that time had a piece of property that he wanted to purchase. It's not the first time we have all seen "Must sell, buying a house".
In regards to the motor, it should be a good working piece, I spent a full day with it on the dyno after I had it rebuilt. |
