You talking about the green W-31. I thought that car was sold new in Alberta! Paul Martin

YEP !
Here's what I found out .... quite by accident, really. Back in '92 when Gene got the GM of Canada paperwork originally, it did not include dealer info in the packet and number of cars in that body style - i.e 33277 shipped to Canada. (Incidentally, there were only 641 TOTAL F85's shipped to Canada in 1970 -- regardless of powertrain...) Anyway ..... I decided to pay the $45 and get the more up to date format that George uses. Not expecting any surprises, just a "fresh" look on the docs. So in comes the docs last week, and lo-and-behold, there is this strange dealer referenced. ![]() ![]() |

I spoke w/ my Dad last night and all he remembers is Lockhart Motors in C'Wood too. . His though was maybe the Lockhart name was retained but Creed as the registered owners of the dealer code hence the GM info? . Who knows....like I said I'll check w/ my cousin and see what he remembers also try and get an update on the Boob case? He did tell the laywer he'd accept one boob and even offered to take the worst of the two as he says one is a bit of a botch job....looks like a tennis ball in an old sock??
It's interesting your 641 total of F85's coming into Canada. Do you know if this includes all "77" sedan cars including the 442 posts or are the 442's in addition to this number? I'm a sucker for post cars and used to have a '70 442 post, original W25 car also had a '69 442 post car before that one. I swapped the '70 car away for some snowmobile racing parts and turned the '69 into a stock car back in the early 80's. . The '69 is still sitting at the back of a buddy's farm....roll cage, original rear axle, bent 442 bumper, trim tag and all. . Just last week I thought I'd found the remains of my '70 but I think it's a different car? . Haven't dug up the old numbers yet but the one I was looking at is stripped but is a '70 442 post (4477) and has the trim tag still on it. . I'll have to find out who owns it although would take a major resto to save it. . There's a '68 442 hardtop in a backyard here in town that my 12 year old spotted when he was 9 or 10....the guy claims he's the original owner too but it's really a parts car now and way too rusty to buy at his price. Happy trails! ~ Pete

Thanks for the followup Pete !
![]() No, that does not include other post cars, just F85's -- 6 cylinders, 350-2V's, 350/310's, and W-31's. |

Talked to Gene about this last night and he says he was always under the impression that the car was sold new in Olds Alberta. Sounds to me like a dealer transfer thing. I bought a new 442 in 1977 in Winnipeg and the car had been transfered from a small dealer in Kenora Ontario who could not move it. Lots of "Garages" in small towns had franchise agreements and sold small quantities of cars, kept a dozen in stock and ordered the rest. The car may have been ordered by Creed, delivered there but then transferred to Alberta. Get Grishom from CSI on the case. Paul

Hey, a good ol' dealer trade....excellent thought! . Wonder if someone got to drive this baby West? . I remember back in my dealership days we had a few old lads who would do the runs w/ dealer trade cars....we called 'em the Geritol gang! . In the pre speed-sensor days and depending on how far of a run it was, often there was a gentleman's agreement with the dealer on the other end that the speedo would be disconnected for the trips. . This would drive the Geritol boys crazy as they had no idea what speed they were going and couldn't complain outloud about this kind of thing. ~ Pete

The Geritol Gang is still active. Lots of old guys drive cars around for dealers just to put in time and make an extra buck or two. It looks like I'll be retiring this year. Perhaps.............naw.
