I drive my Z with 10.5 to 1 and have no trouble at all. I mix some of that Jack Podells true lead octane booster with 93 octane. Buy it by the case. Works great. You can get up to 103 octane. Its called: Max Lead 2000. Aviation fuel is iffy in my opinion. JMO [/ QUOTE ] That's a helpful suggestion. I would have to go to the local dragstrip to get high octane fuel for the car. The lead additive is a more practical solution in my opinion. |

With the correct cam you can bleed off enough cylinder pressure to help with some low rpm detonation. Also, thermal barrier coating can help ( ie, keep the charge cool ).

Just wanted to thank Sean (sean70SS) for some fuel and tune-up tips for my 302. Thanks!

In the old days I ALWAYS ran a rough mix of 60/40 Unleaded pump/AV gas...Maybe a straight 12 gallons of AV gas Sat night...off to the drags Sun morn...[12:1 comp] Always ran purrrfect! Last time I ran AV gas was two summers ago ..same mix [11:1 compression] very good!
But now I'm too lazy..the truck drops off the drum of VP 4:1 [pump/av]in the L-78 1:2[pump/av] in the L-88[ or straight if it's off to the drags... The 496'' in the grocery getter is 2005 gas station friendly ![]() |

I have been lazy! [/ QUOTE ] Where do you guys store these drums of VP fuel? Is it safe to keep it around your house? I have a feeling the wife would object to my keeping this stuff anywhere near our home. Is it even legal to maintain this amount of race fuel in a residential area? Just curious since it seems to be a common thing to do with you guys who own high compression cars. |
