I bought one awhile back and they are awsome. You can be standing upright and as long as you can see the pad you can read it.

Bob,

The cataloging of the differing variations of original "real deal" vertical machining marking's are what is needed as the use of the scope is still limited to the knowlege and eyesight of the user.

Glad I can still tell an original "broach mark" with out the need of a magnifier.

If you are standardizing the observations for a team -(say Judging) this item would be the ticket if all the judges had the same prerequsite knowlege base otherwise what looks "original" to one guy is another guy's "fake".

I do use an optical aid for the light marks, it is a simple folding linen tester, which is a glorified folding magnifying glass with marked graduations in inches and centimeters that I use to precicely measure the marks.

Cost me $2.50.

Hey it is your money, if the $100 dollar scope is what you want have at it...

Phil...It is alot more polite and less intrusive when you don't have to climb under somebodys hood, and maybe ask him to remove the alternator to get a good look at the pad. With this 100.00 tool you can be 3' away and get a nice view. Good luck with your precise measurements if it is buried under a alternator.

You make it sound like it has x ray vision...if the alternator is there how is it gonna see thru it from 3 feet away ?

Look down behind the alternator. You might have to grab the heater hoses but it is easy. They really do work great.
