So, L78 is the RPO code for the 400 engine in 1979?

The 400 in our '72 Lemans Sport was designated as L78 in the GM documentation.

Yes. The Pontiac 400, not the Chev 400.

Those '79 Trans Ams with the L78 were really quite a car and ran very well. If I remember correctly, the 400 Pontiacs were 4-speeds, and all the Olds 403's were automatics. Pontiac even snuck a nice camshaft in there and got away with it. You know, when the musclecar era ended in the early seventies, it's like someone forgot to tell Pontiac. Just take a look at the 1973-74 SD455's. What else was even close to them. Regular 455's were still available in 1976 and the WS6 four wheel disc brake cars in the late seventies, early eighties were cool. I mean really, how can you not like that engine-turned metallic finish on the gauge cluster. Great car.

I had a 78 L78 M21 car and let me tell you, it was one fun car. Whoever buys this car is going to love it! And it's a rare one as well!

I have one of these cars. Yes, they got the Borg Warner Super T-10. This car runs, lots of fun. It was my college car, lots of good memories! I could beat anything on the street until that Mustang 5.0 came around in the mid-80's and gave me a run for the money!
