Default Re: $5 Million Dollar HEMI CUDA Convertible!!

I wonder if the prices will hold up after the generation who is paying the big numbers for the cars is gone?
During the 70's and 80's big numbers were paid for brass era cars that are not near as valuable, or at least have not had any price inflation in the last 20 years.
If the kids now want restored Hondas and Nissans in 30-40 years then I would venture to guess that the "average" muscle car will not gain the ground that they are experiencing now. The high end cars (Hemis, ZL-1s, etc)
will probably continue to rise as long as there are collectors because there are so few of them.

Another thing I've been thinking about lately is in 30-40 years is the gas availability to run these cars and if there is little gas left will people be willing to pay big bucks for something that can't be driven, especially to a generation in which the majority did not grow up with these cars???...will they eventually become just garage art or will the cool thing be to retrofit an electric or hydrogen engine into them...I hope it doesn't get to that point - electric motors just don't have that spine tingling rumble while they are running.....Either way I'll be in love with these cars till the day I "pass on"

We'll have to convert our cars to propane or hydrogen....

Actually, there'll probably be a company willing to produce a limited quantity of 75-octane to run in our de-tuned treasures. They'll have pity on us "hobbyists" and sell it to us at the special rate of $50 per gallon. And we'll be happy to buy it, right?

I just got some 110 octane at 5.00/gal yesterday , although I can't say i was all too happy.

The Deuce did seem to enjoy it though....

Yeah Joe, I occasionally treat my Camaro to a few gallons of Unocal 101 unleaded pump gas. Man, that stuff makes the exhaust smell good, like candy. (No drain-bramage, I mean, brain damage jokes.) Near-total waste of money im my car's case but it does run better.

I'm sure I'll get ripped into for this reply but I have to say something about these outrageous prices for some of these musclecars. Don't get me wrong; I love musclecars as much as the next guy but, 5 million for a Hemi 'Cuda.........come on. Are you trying to tell me that a production line produced musclecar is worth more than a hand made aluminum bodied Cobra S/C or Ferrari GTO? These cars have a racing pedigree, were hand built by craftsman and were extreme limited production cars.
I just find it hard to justify pricing a Hemi 'Cuda or similar musclecar over something like the two cars I mentioned.
For the lucky few who own these cars I think you better get comfortable with the influx of clone / recreation cars since there aren't too many people who can afford the real thing anymore and, if they could, would they really even think about driving such a valuable piece?

Okay, have at it, I know I'm going to get clobbered.

I loved it during BJ on Speedvision the British announcer Alan had his panties in a twist when American "commoners" cars were going for more than high brow ferarris and such. It was great.

They only made 7-71 Hemi Cuda convertibles. How many Cobra's did they make and how many clones are made of them ???
