Triple Green or Triple Black LS5

Carnack predicts 9 to 1 ratio in favor of tri-black - but I am not trying to influence the voters. My point is, you might want to pose the question differently like "would you ever buy a tri-green car"? To compare it to something as devastatingly hot as a tri-black (particularly stripe delete) may be a bit unfair . My response is, it depends: Which motor, is the drivetrain original, is the car documented, does the car have an interesting history, what is the condition of the tri-green scheme. I will admit that the car would have to have most of these things aforementioned going for it in order for me to buy it, but I would definitely consider it. A dead-on paint job in a car with attention to detail in many respects can do a lot to overcome a less than desirable color scheme .

I say black, or whatever desirable color you want. It's your car and if your just not going to enjoy the car if it's not appealing to you then paint it, or sell it and find a black one. As far as resale it's a coin flip. Your either going to sell it to a stunch "got to be original" guy or a guy that dosent care and loves the car in black. There's an a$$ for every pair of pants, and with the all the new collectors coming into the hobby everyday someone would want it. If it was an LS6 it would be a little harder to make that choice, but still it's your car do what you want, worry about resale when the time comes.

If it's triple-green, most guys will say "Nice car" out loud while in their heads they're thinking, "Too bad it's triple-green."

How about a black interior and black top and green paint? Change at least the interior to black to help the car out of its unfortunate original scheme. Maybe change the interior to black and consider leaving the vinyl top off.

Though they look nice, I wouldn't respray in black. It's gotten to where I assume every black '70 SS Chevelle was green until the tag proves otherwise. It's the defacto color change color. I personally know of two LS6 cars locally that are this way. Whereas several years ago I helped sell a nice '67 Camaro SS396/325hp 4sp car that was changed from Granada Gold to Tahoe Turquoise, and the color change issue didn't really come up. I think people were so taken by the color, yet its so rarely seen, that they didn't ask about the tag info until after they had fallen in love with the car. I know this is fuzzy logic, but I believe it to be true. Black musclecars just make me suspicious, since so few are legit. I immediately check the tag, then immediately start looking critically at what other "improvements" were made.

Though I personally am a purist at my core and don't like color changes, I know how tough some combinations are. We once had a heck of a time selling a '70 LS5, white on black with black stripes, bucket seats and COLUMN SHIFT AUTO WITH NO CONSOLE. Purist or not, there's no way I'd go to the trouble of restoring a car and not put a shifter between the bucket sears. (The white paint didn't do anything for the car, either.) And, if I were to deviate from the trim tag on any '70 Chevelle, I'd lose the vinyl top since I don't think they complement the body lines very well.

If you do the color change, I think the blues and turquoises that year are very nice, and not seen enough. Black interiors are boring to me at this point, but nobody seems to object to them, which is what you want when selling it, right?

(And finally, being this self proclaimed purist who values diversity, distrusts black cars, and believes synthetic tops ruin the lines of ''68-72 A bodies- what is my dream ''70 SS you ask? Well, that would be a certain black on red, stripe delete, LS6 ragtop. The heart and the mind don't always mesh.)

Bill that voting idea is just to cool. It's almost like a reality show where the audience gets to vote on whether the guys a dope or not. I appreciate the input and comments. I have to say so far I'm a little surprised at the results. Where were all these green Chevelle supporters when I was trying to sell the LS6? I used triple black because it's one of my all time favorite trim combs and because it’s the extreme opposite of triple green. However, triple black is not etched in stone. I could go Astro Blue in a heartbeat, but triple green

Tripple green is rare. If the resto is as nice as it sounds I think you will have NO trouble selling it. You may not want to sell it when done! Green with envy!!!!
