I took a few pics of my spare wheel. The dark grey paint does indeed have some fine metallic in it. It's not as noticeable since the paint does not have a high gloss finish, but it is there. These pics I am posting lost a lot of detail resizing them for posting, but I have higher resolution pics (~ 760kb each) that I could email to anyone who is interested.

Are you sure about the metallic actually being in it?
I see that as the silver undertone layer that was applied first, before the Dark Charcoal inserts were painted very lightly later.

that makes the most sense,
I have watched you guys discuss these wheels for awhile, and the three I had were the same, I looked them over and they had a very light metallic to them but the silver bleeding through makes the most sense!!! as it is the strangest looking color, now Rick needs to spray a old wheel and see if it bleeds through the same, good job Columbo!

Hmmmmm.....I would think if the silver was 'bleeding through' the grey would not look near as dark as it does Look at all the runs in the grey paint - runs don't come from paint being applied lightly.

I dont recall any runs in the ones I had they were barely sprayed the dark grey to the point they were fuzzy a little on the outside edges of each lug area..at least that's what I recall.
