I purchased this car a few months back, it is in rough shape but was sitting in a shop for 15 years or so. The trim tag decodes to a 67 Camaro L78 Convertible but I am not convinced. Most of the original parts are long gone. The build date is very early. I thought L78 Camaros were not introduced until later. I will post some more pictures tonight. I want someone to convince me it is not fake.

Knappy,
1st of all, I'll make it perfectly clear that I don't know Squat about Camaros. I don't know what equipment entered production when at all. I didn't even know the tag had something on it to indicate L-78. What I am familiar with though, is what the characters on repro tags look like. Unless the guys doing these have gotten the correct fonts for a few incorrect characters in the last year or so, I still say it looks legit to me. You say the car was sitting since about '90 or so. Why would someone put a bogus tag on a car, then leave it sit for 15 years? Did people even know those codes 15 years ago? Not trying to make an argument - just offering something to think about. Maybe Fisher just stamped it wrong. Maybe it's a pilot L-78??? ![]() Verne ![]() |

The first L78's were 4P cars...I owned one. And yes, the tag looks like a fake even if the dates and codes were correct. Put a pic of your '67 Z tag on your screen with this one beside it and look for differences

I did not buy this car as a real L78, but I can't tell if these tags are fake. I am going to put several together and compare. Thanks all for the input

Charlie,
The numbers on your tag look crisper but I just can't be sure like you guys. I will have to study more. These fake tags are getting better and better.

Sometimes I can spot these from one or two obvious errors. I can't tell on this one. Try and get an opinion from Kurt S. over at CRG. He is pretty good about spotting the fakes.

Try posting a pic of your tag that is less blurry and we can get a better comparision. Does your camera have a Macro setting ?

Knappy,
Now that I see the tag more closely and sharper, I'm sorry to say I see a couple wrong fonts. I think it's a restamp. Verne |
