I think the stamp you are referring to on the firewall is the part stamp. It would be the same as the base coupe so the part number is the same. The hidden VIN would have the plant code and vin sequence.

Thanks for the reply, can you tell me where to look for the hidden vin that you refer to?
Is the car guaranteed to have a hiddeen vin as you refer to? Can you tell me what the "Z19" means? Thanks again! |

Most of the VIN rivets I have seen are as you have described with the star portion on the underneath side

Thanks for all of the replies thus far.
I have tried to locate a number in the recessed area above the fuel filler but have not found a number yet, maybe a little more scraping to remove the sound deadener etc. I decided to strip the firewall with a spray can of stripper. The stripper quickly removed all of the black paint to reveal over the tunnel two distinct markings where the metal is more shiny than the surrounding area. It looks like a kid wrote on the firewall directly above the tunnel with a crayon "13637" and "ZL3". Also at the top recess of the tunnel there is also a what appears to have been written "021" I got some photos of this to show the contrast of the metal and the location. The build sheet does call for the ZL3 conversion. I could find no stampings on the outside of the firewall except some numbers on the brace that the fender bolts to near the top and it was marked something like 23. The lower brace that includes the front body mount has some numbers stamped on it as well but only a couple digits, maybe 4 or so. I assume these were part numbers for the individual components prior to welding together. As I mentioned I cannot find a number on the rear but then again the storage facility has no lights. A flashlight and a piece of sandpaper were not producing results in the dark. Thanks for the comment on the rivets. Regards, Kip |

Don't be alarmed if there are no numbers in the rear. I have researched this a little bit and it seems the 13637 Malibu's had no numbers but some of the 13437 Chevelles did. Just wanted to check to see if yours had a number there.

Welcome
ZL-3 Conversion is common among these cars.It merely lets the assembly know to prepare the body for a Super Sport provisional upgrade. Paint production code 927-99846 is indeed Code #43 Citrus Green Acrylic Lacquer.Does this Chevelle have white Band aid stripes & a Flapper door Cowl Induction hood? Is the Interior color Black,or Ivory? Why is your user name the Chevelle Convertible code..do you own one? ![]() |

The car in question has no stripes on the build sheet nor does it have a flapper hood, it has the non-functional cowl hood. The interior is black, bucket seat with console, TH 400, IP gauges. The car was painted 73 corvette blue when I bought it, but I did see David Gilsmer's car on ebay and got a good look at citrus green.
And yes, I do also have a 70 SS convertible, 396/350 car. I bought the 13637 just after high school and the 13667 during college. Thanks for your reply. |

That's a very unique color for your Chevelle.
Good for you for holding onto it so long. ![]() I found this while thumbing through some memorabilia I collect. ![]() |
