Well, I'm not sure why Hemmings publishes things like that. In the April '05 issue they had a Buyers Guide that talked about '65-'66 Chevy Impala. I couldn't believe what they wrote in the "Transmission" section of the article. They said "The other manual boxes included 2 four-speeds, one a normal "heavy-duty" version, and the strong but noisy "Rock Crusher" made by Muncie, better known as the M22, which was the only transmission available with the 427." The ONLY transmission available with the 427??!!!
I have no idea how or where they got that information, but it's flat out wrong. There were 2 427's (390hp, 425hp) available in 1966. If all the 427 full size cars came with M22's as Hemmings has claimed then there would have been 5,143 cars in 1966 with the M22 instead of the documented 2. There are documented full size L72 cars that came with M20's and M21's (they didn't mention M21's in the article). I would have expected more accurate information from Hemmings. ![]()

Well, it is a decent mag, but the problem is that some people will believe that information. It happens in a lot of magazines, not just Hemmings MM. If a magazine did an article on Yenko cars and in the article they said all Yenko cars came with 4.56:1 gears, some people out there would believe that as fact. Some Yenko owners would start grumbling.
That's one thing I like about this board, we can come here to sort out the good info from the bad. There's a lot of super knowledgeable people to put forth the right info.
