Rob, Thanks for the assistance. As I have stated before, I'm not really sure that the carrier in the pics was the one that came with car.
In any event, that carrier was replaced with a new Eaton S4.
The old one was swapped for some other parts that I needed.
Andy

Not to hijack this post but... I have just taken apart my " KQ" rear and have some numbers to post as well..Ring gear 2 GM 3862526 10 41 4 69. Different part number than the BE rear posted here but what is it? Rear number is KQ 0624 for a third week of July COPO Chevelle

On the flange of the carrier E 27 J is stamped. I wont have the posi unit out until tomorrow although I fear the worst as the springs are green in color and appear to be small diameter wire not to mention that I can turn the rear wheels in opposite directions and watch the discs slip. Thanks

ALbert

The E27J on your carrier is the correct code and the date spread is within range, about a month apart. Your carrier casting date is probably 70 to 100 range, I'm guessing. On some of the later cars, the posi date to axle dates were a little further apart than during the high production months. Compare you unit to the pics that Casey will be posting and the id characteristics in my next post. I wouldn't worry about the green springs until you check the other features. It may have been rebuilt in the past. I will put the date data I my next post.
The ring gear is a standard 4.10 with a 3862514 pinion.
What is the casting date on the housing?
Hope this helps.
Eric

[ QUOTE ]
Ring gear 2 GM 3862526 10 41 4 69.

[/ QUOTE ] I believe they should be #226 in a copo .. #526 is regular 410 non heat treated.
