looks like his car was the last built before the 69 strike, and yours was the first built after the strike.

Often the COPO body numbers lag the "run of the mill" camaros and don't line up.

I believe I read here somewhere, that a car was assigned a bodynumber when the order was accepted by Chevrolet. So it would have little to do with when it was built.
Am I wrong ?
Experts come forward !

69 body numbers are the order number assigned by GM after the order has been checked and approved by the factory. After the order was approved and the number assigned it was sent back to the ordering dealer with an approximate build date. The order was then sent to the appropriate factory for building. The cars were then scheduled for building based on availability of the parts necessary to complete the car. Cars with low production options, or special paint colors usually had a longer gap between order acceptance and build date resulting in body numbers jumping all over the place. The body number was assigned by GM as it was the only number assigned to the car prior to it being built, but it was stamped by Fisher. VIN's were assigned to the cars in the GM Body Bank area as they came over from Fisher to the GM side of the plant. The VIN's were basically handed out in numerical order as the cars came thru the hole in the wall.

CRG Camaro Assembly Process Page

No Norwood strikes in 1969. LA Struck April 29th till July 19th and only reopened to finish the cars that were actually partially assembled on the line already, which contained roughly 800-900 Camaros.
