On that particular run, I had a better ET (barely) than Schoneye's son only because of his severe traction problem. He actually may have crossed the finish line in front of me though

I'm a pretty big fan of BFG radials, and I think if we had dropped the pressure to 14 we might have got it to hook, but not at 24psi. We didn't start to hook up until 3rd, and Joe missed 3rd on that run, and I missed it twice. Best time all day was a 14.44 on a missed 3rd shift. We knew we had an issue with the shifter, but thought it would be good enough. NOT! I was happy with the motor, but before next year will do more on track test, and tune. Tires, and shifter will be long gone, and we may uncork those big tubes.
My thoughts on the M. vrs F. races, Marlin's car may have been working better ie; chassis separation, and hp, but I think Frank had a better set up with the 3.73s and the traction. Less spin off the line. Also, and Frank I love ya but, your heavier weight my have been to your advantage that day. We could have used 50#s in the trunk. Schonye

The air at SCR7 was CRAP. Our Camaro went from a best of [email protected] in Collinsville to a [email protected] in Stanton 2 weeks later...roughly a 1600ft difference in the DA. Same tune, same everything. Pete's car did the same turn around, going from high 12.2s I believe at 114 in Collinsville to 12.0s @ 116 in Stanton...but the Gateway crew did a PHENOMINAL job on prepping the track! The guys at MMM could learn a lesson or two from them...

But, at least it didn't rain!

The difference between Marlin and Frank was the exhaust. You could hear Franks nice healthy burble while Marlins sounded like my Moms Volvo. Franks was just breathing easier.

Who knows. All I can say is that I DID NOT DO ONE THING in preperation for that race. NO plug changes (the plugs are the same and have never come out since Neal installed them years ago), NO carb adjustments, NO suspension mods, NOT EVEN a change to tire preasures. I think all the tires were set at 28lbs. I was leaving the line at about 1000-1200rpms and NO powershifting.

I agree with Charley, the biggest difference between the two cars is the exhaust. There are numerous other differences, ie; pistons, combustion chamber, etc... but the exhaust is the biggie.

I have a Gardner system on mine, the stock system not the deep tone version, so I have 2.25 inch pipes - crinkle bent, two resonators, single crossflow muffler with two-in two-out, and 2.0 inch tailpipes. Neal had installed the pure stock allowable 2.5 inch mandrel bent system with flowmaster mufflers. Better breathing! I knew the differences, and also knew the cars would be close after Frankie put the 3.73's in the rear and took out Neal's 4.56's. It was a fun, close racing.

I have Pete's copo Nova setup in my carb, approx. 38-40 degrees of timeing all in by 2500 rpm, and 40 psi in the rears, 45psi in the fronts. I couldn't run my spring clamps because they were interfering with the frame rails, and the bolts had too much of a shoulder on them and therefore would not tighten up. My fault, I should have installed them before the day of the race! Better yet, I should have called Neal to have him make me set like he put on Frankies car! I would either bog or hop, frustrating, but... that's racing

BTW, the CR's are probably a lot closer than I originally thought after talking to Rob and Pete - again, my fault for using TRW's

Frankie was smart not to mess with Neal's setup! I believe Neal raced that car in the Hemmings race at Lebanon raceway last year, he said it was in the 13.80's - right on schedule!

Does anyone know where this car was sold from? I have an ad for one from '67, with RS and sidepipes!
