Default Re: Where is '69 Corvette serial # location on tranny

Greg,
You should also look at the Data tag on the passenger side of the trans.--it will be riveted to the passenger side of the trans case at about the mid-point. For a 69 427 Corvette
the codes MUST be either CL (for a 427/390 or 427/400) or CY (for a 427/430/435--L71,L89,or L88) If it is CK, this is the Turbo 400 for the 69 small block Corvette. Be very careful looking at these codes and the Vin #---the Vin # can be VERY hard to locate and even harder to view because of many things blocking your line of sight. Many of these transmissions were changed over the years and I have looked at a number of L71 and L89 auto Corvettes over the years and they very frequently have the trans changed. The owner/seller of the car usually swears it is the original trans, but if it is not the correct codes as mentioned above and the correct VIN #,,,it is NOT the original Trans., no matter what they say. If it is a CY code , contact me and I will tell you other things to look for---these are extremely rare transmissions---I had one for many years in a 69 L89 Corvette I owned--- what a combination!
