------Urban myth no.442! In reality this car was put up for auction by a bank at a Las Vegas classic car auction back in about 1992 or 3. It is an extremely nice creation. Many nice original W30 parts used. It has survived very well(actually may have been redone). It was built for a guy who made a bunch of money and then had a few problems. Bank took several of his cars to the auction. I know his name and know him but wont embarrass him. It was a put-together car then and remains a put-together car. Just for a moment think about the bucket seats. They fold forward right? Do you think that "General Motors" would release a car to the public that had 4 doors and had front seats that folded down.
--------You are going to have to trust me on this. It is a put-together car, no matter how cool it is. There are several more of these around, some good-some bad. An orange one comes to mind. The fact remains; they were all put-together!...........Bill S |

Got this from our buddy Dave H, who started with Olds way, way back in the day:
<font color="red">They didn't make any W30 wagons on line to my knowledge. We did build some 455 flattop Cutlass Wagons in 1972, and a few of the 1970 Pace Car Wagons had all the toys, but not W30's. I've see a few put together cars over the years. Like the one guy there says: some good, some bad. Joe Mondello tried to capitalize on his fame and name a few years back and sell of a couple of his cars. One of which he said was a W30 wagon. He was asking some gawd-awful price for it. There's been one of these W30 wagons showing up at Englishtown from time to time. It wasn't blue so it was another car. Kind of a cool creation.

Oldsmobile did not produce any W-30 442 wagons. As was stated above, this is another urban legend, like the famed 71 GTO wagon, 72 GTO convertible, etc. They never made them.
We have to remember that there are people out there that just got into our hobby, they have a LOT of money to spend, and want that "1 of 1". When they see or hear of a car like a 442 wagon or GTO wagon, they believe they need to act fast before someone else buys it out from under them. Then as they get more involved in the hobby, and start talking to people at car shows or cruise nights that actually know what they're talking about, the buyer realizes that he was taken. Now the buyer is embarrassed to take their car to specific car shows (like national events) for fear of being laughed at, so they stick to local shows and cruise nights. As time goes by, they grow tired of hearing comments about their car, so they begin to fabricate a story about how "this is the only one they ever made" (probably the same line that got them to buy the car in the first place), and argue with anyone that tells them different. Hey, that W-30 wagon is still a cool looking car, but it's a fabrication. Now I'm going out to the garage to work on my 69 Chevelle SS ZL-1. ![]()

yo norm,
If you want to get into a disscusion about the wagon, why don't u talk to the man who owns it, not someone in the crowd. Ask your olds people about the documented gold W-30 wagon that sold in Atlantic City in 2001. Many people in Philly know of that car, Myth or not, supposedly 5-6 "wonder wagons" were made in 1971, and yes in 1972 6 wagons were at indy as pace cars for camera crews and medical staff. Have seen one and have pictures from the olds nationals of another. Real or myth why in june 04 auto trader is someone selling a 71 olds, vista cruiser, 2 seat model, full power with a 455?? They do exsist |
