I tend to agree. The 396 was launched late in the 68 Chevy II model year. As a result the "SS" could have been the standard. Did it make sense to change to the "SS396" for so few cars late in the model year?
I will research it. If anyone has part numbers for the emblems, post them, I can check usage and parts history to see what they were intended for in the parts books. GregR
