Chevrolet started ith Casting number 50 for the "052" blocks on January 6, 1969. The last casting number I have is 586 which was cast on July 29, 1969. However, I have been told that perhaps more than one-half of the castings did not make it through final production, due to casting flaws.

on the side of the block it has a casting like the block numbers i was told by al maynard that there were 500 orig made for racing so gm could qualify a/ss class in racing ? ed thanks for the info you guys no more about Zl-1s than anybody thanks jeff

Ed is the number stamped in the block (bottom of block and caps ) the numerical sequence number of the blocks assembled???
