OK,
Here is what I have so far. It is far from scientific yet. I searched 1970 V8 VINs backwards. I stopped at Marks L78. I only looked for Speedo Chrome. I found 37 out of a few 100 cars with speedo chrome. Most had poor quality pictures or no picture of the bezel. 37 cars had a picture of the dash good enough to tell the bezel had chrome around the speedo. 4 had standard door panels. 33 had custom interior door panels. 20 of the 33 had original door panels. The tach/clock options were about 50% of these. All but three of the custom had pedal trim. These cars were mixed original and questionable originality. I still have to find out how many cars with custom interior did not have the speedo chrome. It will be late next week before I can go through all of the records. Interior Convenience Package - RPO ZJ3 and was to have Bright pedal trim and Bright framing on instrument cluster carrier. I think this was ZJ3 on 68 - 69 cars. ZL3 on 70 cars. Again based on the limited FB build sheets in the database. Any one have a FB build sheet marked different? It would help if some of the examples pictured here can make it into the database. Especially the anomalies.

Allen,
You could only get a Tach in a car with Buckets seats. Bucket Seats were part of the Custom Interior. SO All Tach cars should have the bezel with full chrome (lower section, the vent section, Speedo, and around the whole bezel). The question is what was the difference in Special Interior Cars. I have gone through all of the '69 files and the majority of the Custom cars (that had a legible picture) had the full chrome treatment. There were only a few standard interior cars that had the full chrome treatment. Most of the pictures were not good enough to really see a pattern for the chrome around the vents vs. the chrome around the radio controls. Both types were used in 69. Of course who knows how many cars were not original. I will go through the 70 files in detail next. It would help if everyone could look through their files for the following for each car: Chrome around the radio/headlight controls (yes/no) Chrome around the vent/heater controls (yes/no) Chrome around the speedo (yes/no) Chrome around the perimeter (yes/no) Chrome trim on the pedals (yes/no) Trim code or style of door panel (standard/custom) Is the Nova plate on the door panel if custom (yes/no) Is there a clock? (yes/no) SS or Bow tie on steering wheel shroud Wood grain on shroud (yes/no) Thanks!

So,my bucket tach car should have chrome around the false vent and heater control? It doesn't. The Dana 69 bench seat only has chrome around the wiper/headlight/radio. Is that considered correct. I am getting ready to refinish the Dana dash. It had never been out untill I removed it. Great info...BKH

What is the date code on the bucket tach car? I believe it was intended to have bright around all of the bezel too. Now what was intended and what were installed are two different things. Unless there was a early 69 late 69 design change then it might be an anomaly (is that better that saying incorrect? ![]() Can any of you check part numbers on the bezels you have? On the Dana car I would restore it as you found it. Do you have a picture of the bezel? Is it good enough shape to see if the chrome might not have been wiped off? I am sure you checked that already. What is the build date? I can check the pictures I have near that date to make sure it is correct (I believe it is, but it does not hurt to check). BTW who is going to refinish the dash? I need to have one done too. Greg

Here are the three styles of Bezels we are discussing. I labeled them based on what I think the intented use is. The Deuces might be an exception. Let me know if your car is an exception to this.
The pictures in the files are not really helping. I will add this to the research project list. Standard Bright around the bottom controls ![]() Special Interior Bright around the bottom controls and vent opening or block off and heater/AC contols. ![]() Custom Interior Bright around the bottom controls; vent opening or block off and heater/AC contols; and around Speedo and sides and top edge. ![]()

Good pictures Gregg. Do we have a consensus on which is what? It appears that we have a cross up between years and options! I don't think the Deuces are an exception, they have the ZJ3 option and some of the additional brightwork, just nothing around the speedo and perimeter.

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY;
No enough information yet. The pictures in my files are mostly worthless because you cannot see the detail well enough to prove one way or the other. I created the following research topic and will add this to my Nova Survey form to start gathering good information. I think that the ZJ3 option did not get the speedometer brightwork. I am going to work it from that position and try to prove it wrong. Research Topic: 1969 -1972 Dash Bezels
