Default Re: 69 camaro weight ???

I have a book here. It's by Jim Osborn, 1969 camaro facts. It states that a base camaro V8 curb weight is 3145. I would add about 200 to 250 for the big block. I do not think you can get an accurate weight at a grain eleviator or a big truck scale. The reason for this is in the late 80's I started doing a mach up of my car. At this time I would use Allied Van line scales. They would be off 100 to 200lbs in eather direction. Truck scales are designed to weight heavy trucks ( 10,000 and up ) not cars (3,000 to 4,000 lbs) If you have a state inspection(??) station they should have some scales there. Go to a race track scales ther should be with in 50lbs or so. Rob, I'll answer your questions PM.
Thanks Larry

Re scales: I tend to trust the "certified" scales more than the track scales. I live across the street from the feed store, and see the MoDOT(?) weights/measures periodically checking the scale. It has to be within 10 pounds at any point on the scale, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 feet or so long. No matter where on that 90 feet they put that weight, it had better be within 10 pounds, or they lose their certification. They can also lose their certification by not being "certified" for 5(?) consecutive years...to regain their certification they must then be 100% correct. As I said above, I've seen a range of 400+ pounds using track scales. But having known what my car weighs on a certified scale I now know which track scales are right and which aren't...

Hey Pete: just think, you might have that white car in the 11's by now if you'd have been drinkin' "Lite" all these years!

The variation in scales depends on whether they are buying stuff from you or selling it to you. Our COPO Chevelle weighed 3700 with half a tank of gas. That was on scales belonging to a guy who sells you stuff so it might be a little high.
