Yea after looking at the pics again there must have been at least two Judges used for testing with these stripes, pretty obvious one too. One has exposed headlights and the other has hideaways. Pretty cool.

Yea the one pic clearly shows a 68 GTO post car as the HOT ROD test car with a 69 rear bumper and 68 quarters. Those rear markers were definetely 68's. I guess Pontiac was going to carry over the 68 rear markers for 69 and changed it up right before production. Very interesting indeed.

The Hot Rod test car is a 69 Tempest body (2dr sedan) E.T. prototype. 68 GTO, Lemans, Tempest and 69 Lemans, Tempest all shared the same rear quarter panel side marker light. 69 GTO had its own design. I would guess the one without the Judge sticker on the fender would be the second Judge prototype based on the GTO body. Third is the actual production car.

I have no idea ![]() This is possibly the GTO "The Judge" tested by Car Craft. This is not the original magazine it's a remake from Car Craft Perf Serie V2 N3 Musclecar Classics 1984 and with only one photo of this Judge. I don't have the original Magazine. I have another photo of a test Judge from an article about Herb Adams in Musclecars Classics Feb 1989. ![]() Possibly the same Car Craft test Judge.?? |

Note in the ads posted today that the words "The Judge" do not appear on the car. When the pictures were taken the name must have not been decided on. The ad pictures were probably taken about 2-3 months before publication. Must have still been debate between "ET", "The Judge" and others at picture taking time. Noticed the other things mentioned.

Actually, this is incorrect. There may be a running change, but there will never be an identity problem like that before an ad shoot.
Also, there ARE Judge decals. They are at the base of the stripe. |
