The dealers have the cash available at a moments notice and it's not as big of a risk for them to make a purchase as it is for a private individual. Plus, having the cash to offer immediately will allow a dealer to purchase a car at a good chunk off the asking price. But if there were no classic car dealers at all, most of these cars wouldn't be worth much at all because the average Joe just can't come up with the money. The dealers help the sellers by buying the car and getting him out of the jam. Then they can help the buyer who can only purchase by getting a loan. It always bugs me to see some of these cars sitting at dealers for over inlfated prices, but without them most of these cars would never even be restored. That's my take on it, hope I didn't ruffle any feathers.
