If you take the price the plate frame just went for on Ebay and multiply it, then take the going rate of the emblems and multiply it, the figure comes out an easy $6000. I would have to guess that whoever bought all these made a circle around Grand Rapids to all the salvage yards and did quite well. Considering Berger has been selling cars in this area since the sixties and maybe earlier, I dont find it odd that the yards that dont scrap all the old stuff would have an abundance of these items. I wish I had gone hunting when I planned to do so right after the plate frame sold on Ebay, then I would have had the pick of the 400 acres of cars in that one particular yard I went to, which I happened to be going to for other parts and thought I would check while I was there. I notice you are from the east, so was it you that made this excursion? I am sure that if the person who did make the trip was reading this they wouldnt like it much that I disclosed the price they paid considering the return it will bring. The stuff is bound to turn up on Ebay soon. We will all just have to wait and see who the seller is. Somebody beat me to it, so what, I'll live. I am sure this type of thing has been done in other areas sooner, like in PA around the area Yenko was?

The only time I've been to MI was to purchase a JL8 two years ago. I bet Charley is behind the missing emblems and frames. Charley are you behind this mystery???

Berger Frames are very hard to come by. Dennis Barker had never even seen one so I doubt if many are in the Junk Yards. The Berger Family has been selling Chevys for over 75 Years I think. Scott Settlemire listed the Bergers as one of only about 19 Dealers in the Nation that the Family has been doing it that long.
As for the Value... The Ebay Frames sold for 600.00 because I was high Bidder at 200.00 but was out of town so I put in a 600.00 Bid figuring that somebody might think they were safe at the last Minute and Bid maybe 300.00. Joe Barr did the same thing at the last Minute and put in a Bigger Bid to insure he Won. He told me he never expected to have to pay that much. It just backfired on him. As of Carlisle he still hadn't heard from the Seller. I don't really think the Market is 600.00. I'm probably willing to pay the most as I have what is probably the most significant Camaro that Berger has ever sold. I was willing to go that high to do what I thought was Complete the car. I doubt if anybody else will and not sure I will anymore either. I will just tape a pic of Joe Barr on the Bumper.

Do you know why Joe sold the Berger wisk broom for 200,yet paid so much more for these frames?
It just seems unusual,if he's so devoted to owning Berger related memorabilia,by paying so much, why sell it. Just curious.... |

Mr70, I sell stuff to buy other stuff. My collection increases by selling off doubles, things i can "live without" and stuff i just don't have any proper way to display. Anyone who's ever been to a Supercar Reunion will attest to the fact that I'm more of a collector than a salesman. I openly admit i make a better buyer than a seller, and usually am on the wrong side of the "profit" equation. Besides, who says Charlie has the only Berger wisk broom out there anyhow? Joe Barr here... (I'm stealing my brother's screen name for a second) I agree these plate frames are tough to find, I have been collecting stuff for a long time and have always known these existed, and never really thought I'd ever see a set, let alone a pair for sale. They are correct 69/70 vintage, and as Dennis Barker noted, they are quite rare. I'm sorry it was Charlie I had to beat out for these, as I have met him and he's a cool guy. I will disagree though that these are not worth the 610 i paid, sure i wish they cost me less, but I could say that for just about any of the 100's of "must-have items" I've purchased over the years. Motown, did you take any pictures of these dozen or so 69/70 cars in junkyards with the silhoutte of berger emblems and plate frames on the rear? Are you saying that some outsider from the east flew out there, found this place, and bought dozens of emblems and Berger frames within the past 2 weeks? I'm anxious to see if these actually show up on ebay as predicted. I can assure you it won't be camarojoe as the seller. As for you Charlie, a pic of me on your back bumper would be a much better improvement to your car than any 610.00 license plate frame! I got the tracking number for them today, so although the seller won't win any awards for fastest shipping, it does look like i will actually have them in hand within the next week. Maybe the seller was out in Michigan junkyards for the past 2 weeks and didn't get a chance to mail them? Hope there's no hard feelings, as someone on this board has told me numerous times, when it comes to ebay, all's fair in love and war! I'm fine Joe... Just make sure you bolt them down or they might show up on my Car. Or maybe I'll just make sure you always have to pay a bunch for stuff on Ebay like somebody else said he used to do before he knew it was you. The Whisk Broom now sits on Dennis Barkers desk.

I am sure if Dennis is reading this thread he will know exactly what yard I am talking about just north of where he lives in a little known place called Gowen, owned by the retired biker pilot.
