Government and Taxes!
In Norway as said before we pay almost 5,80 US$ for each gallon, and that is pretty much the same if its diesel or gas! Concerning cars, if the cars are newer than 30 years, they double or sometimes tripple the price you payed for the car in taxes before you get plates on it, so a 50 k$ new US car like a Corvette is 200 K US $ in Norway before it has license plates on it!!!! THEY ARE CRAZY! NEW |

just wondering, you say 5.00 something for gas over there, but is it like Hawaii and Alaska were the cost of living is made up by salaries. Example when I went to Hawaii couple of years ago a taxi driver told me that he made around 50000 a year (yes I said taxi driver), but in the next sentence he said it cost him about 48000 in yearly living expenses so he doesn't get to save that much a year. Is this kinda of true for you?

I don't think it is the same as Hawawii. My sister lives in Germany. The tax rate is something like 80%. The wages are not adjusted for this like Hawawii vs Midwest US. You do have free (with an 80% tax rate !!) health care, college education etc. The average German does not have private homes in a suburb setting like we have in the US. Most live in condo's or apartment style dwellings with maybe 2-5 units attached together. There are some higher income Germans of course that have some acreage and toys(cars boats etc) but I don't think the average German has the discretionary income we have over here. I think they have the general mindset of wanting security over liberty. Basically they want the government to take care of them i.e. a cradle to grave nanny state and their willing to give up some freedoms for that. Not sure about Norway but probably very similar. |

HI!
In Norway the average industrial worker wages abt. 40 K - 50 K US$ A regular industrial worker, after building a house, getting the car they need, and maybe some kids, and then maybe once every year or so, taking them for a holiday trip , will not be able to save up very much. However the schhols are free, the healtcare is free, but if you have some kind of healtcare problem you will have to wait in line to get for example an surgery for maybe years if it isnt life threatning. Some political parties say they want to change some of the tax stuff, but i have my doubts, on the regular salary you have abt. 35 - 45 % tax, on every last thing you buy, there is always a standard fee to the government on 24 % on all things that can be bougth and sold. In the citys people live in apartments in big houses with lots of them, but just a bit outside the citys, most of the people have their own houses. I am lucky enough to have done some right things concerning money, investments etc, so i am not complaining, but for the man on the street that has a regular 9 - 5 job. things could be better. The banks, and credit institutions here wants something between 7 - 9,5 % interest when you want to make a loan for a house, or a new car. Anyways, just some info on Norway. NEW My opinion is, vote for USA |

New you think you could set me up an interview. Being a realtor, can't also expect a check. 40 50 grand in the bank would be nice. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/
