My understanding from Hagerty is that the car has to be in a secured location, you must have another car for transportation and occasional use for pleasure is OK. When I pressed for an approximation of miles that would be considered OK per year I was told 2500 or so. I also asked about temporary storage in a trailer and was assured that was OK also. I would be interested to hear the answer you would receive now by asking that question. Their 800 number has always been helpful in answering concerns. Anybody ever had a claim?? I had a claim with Hagerty last year when a box flipped over and hit the front fender, called them up told them what happen they said get an estatment ,I did and had a check to me and the shop in about a week or two.
they never once gave me the feeling that I was in the wrong for making a claim they said "things happen and that what we're here for" I highly recommand them! I am an insurance broker by trade, do quite a bit of collector car insurance, Haggerty is a quality company, use them all the time, although I understand that Grundy is now selling polices with no mileage limitations, here's a couple of tidbits; Haggerty writes liability for car clubs very cheap. People that have late model sports cars ie: Porsche's and other exotics, can purchase the same agreed value, limited mileage policies as thier vintage cars, if you can stand the limited use and mileage, you can save a ton of money versus having the cars on your everyday personal auto policy. If anyone has any further insurance questions, give me a shout. Sully

Kevin, I spent a few years with American Collectors but switched three years ago to Hagerty, never regreted it even once. I have a 2500 mile range per year on my cars. Never had a claim but they have always been helpful when calling additions or deductions from my policy.I feel their rates are very competitive also.

I tried to get Hagerty for my cars, but had a speeding ticket in the last 3 years and they wouldn't cover me. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/
[/img] I ended up going with Grundy and had no problems. Cost was the same as Hagerty and no problems over values. I have heard good things about both companies. |

"Haggerty writes liability for car clubs very cheap."
Kind of ironic you mentioned that. I applied to them for club insurance for the sYc, to cover such events as a cruise and show. Their application clearly stated that certain competitive events were not covered, which I understood. I had already arranged for a seperate policy to cover drag racing at the reunion. On the bottom of my application, to be up front, I made mention that we would be racing, but understood that the policy would not cover this, and that other arrangements had been made. The application was denied. The reason why? The company did not fell comfortable with the wording in their application/policy. Makes one wonder. If I had not mentioned drag racing, most likely I get insurance. By being upfront, I did not.

Tom, You are correct in the fact that Haggerty, or any other carrier, will definitely not write any liability policy that has a hint of "Timed and/or Competitive Events". Even if you explain till the cows come home that you have seperate coverage for racing or will only do a "little bit of racing etc." they will turn it down every time. Sure you can say on the app that you will have no racing activities and/or have procured racing coverage elsewhere, but if a claim arises as a result of a timed event, the company will present "material mispresentation" on the application and deny coverage. In the case of coverage for racing being written seperately "on another polciy" again, in the event of a claim they could be dragged in from the either the claimant or the "other carrier".Sure the carrier would more than likely get off with no liability, but that will incur expense money (legal defense) for the carrier to get that no liability decision from the court. That is basically the reason that the slightest hint of Racing, will get you a "Thanks, but no Thanks. Hope I helped out here. Sully
