Bubt are the people actually getting the money after the auctions are done? Assuming they are, the prices are really out of control if you think you need to have GM pieces. Hopefully this will help the repro stuff become better quality if they realize people are willing to spend money on correct parts. NOS just means that you can't really use it because you paid too much and once you install it, it's not NOS any more. There's a guy trying to get $12K for an NOS crossram setup. The second gas goes into one of those carbs, the whole setup becomes used.

I agree with 69L89 on this one, there were two people who both wanted the wheel badly, and neither one wanted to be outbid by just a few bucks, so both set up a bid high enough to be sure to get it. The situation is familiar to me, both as buyer and seller. Yes, the seller will get his money, too, It doesn't mean that the next similar auction will go that high. You would never get that amount if you set your starting bid too high, you need to start low to get some attention on the auction.

Is this a little high, yes. But remember the person that builds a car usually takes a hit when it comes time to sell.Starting from scratch is always expensive. Most can get in deep.Restorations cost money, parts are supply and demand. If you want or require the best be expected to pay.If you surround the wheel with other NOS parts, anything but the best will look out of place. There will always be a market for high end parts just as there is one for the $50.00 split to death wheel. Most of us live in between. If you can get it,sell it.....nobody has a gun to either party. If my car had a cherry original Rosewood wheel on it, I would seriously consider pulling it for $2000. Repro would start looking pretty good to me at that point. I have a repro on my car that I bought for $185 and although it does not look perfectly original, it looks pretty darn good. You pays your money, you takes your pick.
