Not sure.... Just spent the day with Dave about a week ago. I'll ask him next time I'm at the track. This will be the car that the lady who bought the red COPO Chevelle brand new, and traded it in 4 months later to buy this L88 Corvette! Peter

Pete:
Yes I was aware of the history of both of these Central Chev cars, however, it was the refusal by GM to deliver a heater delete car to Canada that always intrgued me. The heater delete cars of mine were not imported. It would be interesting to see if Dave Mathers could comment on the L-88 rumour. Don |

Don,
The heater delete option for credit (RPO C-48) was a 1967 L-88 requirement only (although it was offered for any 1967 Corvette). All 1968 and up Corvettes, including L-88s, were equipped with heaters to comply with federal regulations requiring an operational defroster. The regulations covered all cars that were to be delivered in the continental United States. While there were other cars such as Camaros and Novas delivered to Hawaii, Canada, and other locations without heaters, Corvettes were equipped with heaters regardless of where they were to be delivered. For what it's worth, I was just at the NCRS National event in Hershey, PA... There are six 1969 L-88s in attendance (including one Canadian delivered car)... All of these cars have heaters. Stan, There was an article on the restoration of the 68 Yenko L88 DX race car and they said it was heater delete. I don't know if this is true but with Yenko's connections he may have had some way of getting this car special built.

Stan:
Thanks, then this storey must involve a 1967 L-88 or possibly just a 435 HP car, only Dave Mather can clarify.Pete you see Dave more I do these days, ask him to fill in the blanks. The storey also goes that this was one of the cars that was shipped out west by Central Chev, where the muscle car market was still strong in 1970 & 71. Last I heard the car was still in BC. |

I believe my yellow 4sp coupe may be the car involved in the COPO Chevelle trade. According to GM of Canada the car was originally sold through Dan Kane Chev Olds in Windsor, On. The dealership may have gone by another name in late 68 when the car was delivered. Shortly after that it was sold or dealer traded to Central I think. I'm not 100% sure on that but it did go to another dealer. I have been told that a Chevelle was traded on the Corvette. Later it ended up in Vancouver where I bought it in 99.

Hi Charley. Thanks again for your help on the L78 rag. whitez: The car is not a heater delete nor does it appear to have had the heater removed at any time.
