As the Mtn. Dew commercial says, "Tommy, we got hosed."

Sorry to hear it, Case. By the way...check your PM box.

It was NOT Jon Krogh. Thanks very much for the offer though ! I have a voicemail into the *party* right now. We'll see what the response is. I'm fairly confident that it'll get returned without a hitch (I hope ...), it just frosts my ass that anyone would let something like that go out that was going to serve duty on anything more than a clapped out plow truck ........

When I first graduated from college I worked for a major auto parts warehouse and my job dealt with shipping/sending back rebuildable cores to large companies like A-1 Cardone. It was not uncommon for carb/water pump/distributor rebuilders to grindoff/change numbers to meet their demand or shortages. They did this so the installer would not think they were getting a different part than what was on their car as lots of parts or their components were interchangeable except for minor variations. The numbers on your carb also may be how they came from the factory. I saw some really badly stamps in those 2 years. Never saw any hipo stuff cross my desk though. Typical was a water pump for a diesel Olds or 4 cylinder Citation, that sort of thing.I don't thing the number on your carb was changed for fraudelent purposes. The linkage may have also done by the rebuilder as well. Remember when these parts were going through the "circuit" back then the last thing the rebuilders were concerned about was cosmetics on apart that was going on a old daily driver. I think the seller should have disclosed the flaws better. I just bought a Ford rebuilt Autolite Water pump for my car in the box from my local Ford dealer-sat on the shelf for probably 20 years or more. When I got it home I noticed that one strengthing ribs was missing. The pump was clearly rebuilt after the fin was long gone.
