Thanks for the info my car was built in May 69 so I assume it would have a 5 blade fan. Do these fans have a part # and a date code ?

Martin,
The 3947824 was replaced Mar of 1970. The 1970 L78 fan switched back and forth with 2 different part numbers for a 5 blade fan. Which is typical depending on the source of the part. Have you check an assembly manual for 69? PART NO DISPOSITION Replacement DATE changed Page 3947824 USE 3976060 3-70 120 Greg

Those part#'s you are listing, are not Fan part#'s. *3947824 is a 1969 Assembly line B/B Deepgroove Fan Pulley.Used on Special Hi-Perf solid lifter engines. *3976060 is a 1970 Assembly line B/B Deepgroove Fan Pulley.Used on Special Hi-Perf Solid lifter engines. The Fan is a different part # altogether. |

Mr70,
Well, I guess it was late. I just looked up the number Martin listed "It's 3947824EV" in the prevoius note, in the parts number history DB. When I looked at the 1970 Assembly manual. I saw the two other numbers I mentioned. I should have quoted them. They are 3939001 and 3947128. If I would have looked closer I would have seen the 6060 was listed above the blade. Thanks, Greg

There are two part numbers for the L-78 fan listed in the 1969 AIM. The first fan, part number 3947128 (later superceded by part number 6270076) was a four blade unit having an 18" diameter and did not utilize a fan clutch. The second fan, 3939001, (part number also superceded and became 3990936) is listed as a five blade unit with an 18" diameter and again, did not use a fan clutch. I don't have the AIM handy, but if someone would check, I believe that the revision on the sheet shows approximately April, 1969. Remember that the revision date listed in the AIM was when the document was updated (not when the actual change was made), but the actual production line change would most likely have been close to this date.
