You know, there just might be such a thing as a "1966 SS Z28" lurking somewhere in the Northwest. I'm not saying that this eBay car is one of them, but the seller's claims are not that outlandish if you think about it.
The first 17 Z28s were built Dec 29-30, 1966. In Chevrolet's rush get the cars to Daytona on time, the first 16 cars used a 4P (SS) body, instead of the correct 4L (Z28) code used afterwards. Seattle dealer Alan Green received Z28s #5, #6, and #7. Portland dealer Ron Tonkin ordered Z28 #8. So a 1967 Z28 built in the last week of December 1966 and badged as a 4P car (of which there were 16) could arguably be called a 1966 SS Z28 car. [Edited by Denis (03-04-2002 at 06:19 PM).]

If a car was built on the last week of Dec of 66 it still would be a 1967 model year it has always been that way look at the 84 vette Gm just by past 83s built in 83 but it still is a 84 model
we will need the cars nunbers to see what it is I dont think he knows himself as far as being rare is pushing it Norm

You guys missed probably the rarest part of the car. This was the one prototype that Chevrolet used to test the new engine paint. It took them many more years before they got the Chevy Blue color just right.

I just jumped forward 2 years, it's a 68. He also posted the VIN. Dec / Jan car.
Denis, I'm familiar with what you are saying, but what matters is what the window sticker said, which was Z28, not a code they happened to use in production. 4P also can indicate a L30/M20 car. Don't think people would call the first 16 Z28/L30 cars.

Kurt, I'm pretty sure those first sixteen Z28s all had 4P on their cowl tags. If the original drivetrain has disappeared, you'd have to be pretty observant (eg. 4-spd, cowl plenum hole, assembly date, PDB, etc) to know what you're looking at. The point of my earlier posting is that there may sometimes be a grain of truth in some of these outrageous seller claims.
