That car was definitely a color change. Trim tag is coded 57 for Fathom Green paint.

I meant to check the 57 57 code to confirm what it was. Easier to explain green interior on a FG car. Butternut Yellow with green interior = puke. Butternut Yellow with black interior = now yer talkin'.

It seems funny that a noted collector such as Mr. Dwiggins (and Super Chevy magazine too) could miss something so obvious as the paint code on the Trim Tag.

I guess there were many back then that paid no attention to trim tags. In any case, neat spread...but too bad about the repaint. Here is a picture of the one that got my noodle going on BY cars in the first place.

I can't say it's real, just snagged the photo a while ago ago from another web site. The lack of bumper guards say it's clone, but one never knows. Color is way cool to me and thats what counts. Anyone solid leads on a paint code 40 Z/28 would be greatly appreciated. Finders fee on the right car. Email me for details. Until then I will just keep looking.

20 year old Long dead thread but I have a 2 owner 1969 Butternut Yellow Z/28 with standard black interior, black vinyl top. Original CA plates, POP, all paperwork since new. It was repainted a beige/tan color in 1985 but the butternut yellow is showing everywhere in the jams etc.

Thanks guys. Original parts fit pretty good! But that’s still 6 or so hours of gently ( but not patiently) tweaking to get it as good as it could.
