Bolts to hold the stick on go through from the opposite direction of later ones, among other small details.

Congrats on your find! I got my handle back from plating and will soon receive the shifter mechanism back from Pete Serio.

Paul, some first design handles look like this on the bottom. Does yours have a 4-digit number on it?

No Jon, mine does not have the number. Here's the installation instructions that came with the car.
