VIN on block almost looks like something under it. There is a bare pad picture on the camaros.net thread and I don't like the stamp there either.
There is a 69 convertible on BAT now with the dash replaced and the seller seemed to think it was all original metal. Sites like this and the camaro sites are great to learn what to look for. Makes the subscription here well worth supporting
