A couple years back I bought a '67 Firebird convertible. Car had a California state issued vin tag riveted to the drivers door jamb. After purchasing the car... I ran PHS and it matched the car... colors... options.. etc... The car had a 400 hood with Chevy straight 6 under the hood with a 3spd manual on the floor. PHS came back as a 326 with a floor mounted 3 speed manual.
Years back a buddy traded a blown up Chevy Tahoe for a very rough 66 Chevelle post car. Car had been hit very hard on drivers front.. but came with a bunch of parts including an extra frame(with a 138 vin). IIRC.. the body did not have a vin tag. My buddy put the car together using the extra frame. He then took it to CHP to be inspected and verified. CHP issued a new vin tag using the frame number.. Needless to say... he had the only 2 door post '66 Chevelle with a 138 SS396 vin. I am amazed that BaT allows cars with homemade vin tags on their platform. That Camaro is not the first....... I would not touch that car with a ten foot pole.
