Actually, the majority of Heavy Chevy's were small block. The 400 BBC was offered in the base Chevelle line also, which replaced the discontinued 300 series cars, but were still the stripped down bare bones models. Not sure about the 70 base model. I'll have to do some digging.

The above advertisement indicates the availability of the LS5 in the Malibu too. I was never aware of that, if Chev actually followed thru. I've never seen or heard of one. Anybody ever see one ?

No. The LS5 and LS6 were SS 454 only. Biggest engine option for the Malibu would be the 400/330 HP.
