Don't know anything about Mopars, but if I read the thread correctly, it might be the original VIN tag that was lost years ago and was subsequently located and reinstalled, or it might be a replacement VIN tag with the same numbers was made and installed at some point.

Doesn't appear that anyone can conclusively say which it is. Doesn't appear anyone is saying the number sequence themselves are incorrect just whether or not the stamped VIN tag is an original born with item or a reproduction with the original numbers stamped.

Also appears the car is still in the hands of the Seller and an "expert" who has never seen that car can't say conclusively if the tag is original or a replacement, but has very strong opinions.

Internet is littered with these types of threads. Even this board has loads of them and at times "experts" disagree with each other on originality of stampings or tags from pictures.

As a buyer, it's really important to be knowledgeable or hire someone with expertise on that particular model car, but always some element of risk involved with collectibles of any type no matter how careful you are. I recall several years back there was a $400+ million painting the "experts" can't agree on whether its legit or a reproduction.
