Now some fun stuff... Engine assembly.
You saw the dirty photos... This took some effort to get the block this clean for assembly. My buddy Dereck Glesby the "muscle' for the job... and the brains... he is an aircraft field service mechanic by trade. He also has all of the trick engine assy and measuring tools to check clearances (rather than using plastigage). No surprises aside from a little extra effort to set the thrust bearing clearance. So... after we both misunderstood the Cloyes keyway instructions, I had to build a puller for the crank sprocket which we had installed incorrectly (couldn't wait the couple days to borrow one). And the pistons are in! Very light green hue on the cylinder walls is from the Total Seal "Quick Seat" powder for seating in the rings. I thought it couldn't hurt with this block only having been deglazed.
