At the 1969 MY intro, black was an RPO color for a short time, then dropped. There were few early production black cars.

A famous early production black car [10 B 711] was the L78/auto SS owned by Joe Oldham. It was featured prominently in Baldwin-Motion ads and a few articles in pulp car mags back in the day. He wanted to delete the D90 stripe and Chevrolet refused to do it; early photos show it was built with a white D90. Shortly thereafter, he had the D90 stripe removed.

January 1969, black was added as an extra-cost color. Maybe at that time the default D90 color was changed to red.
