April 1969 Popular Hot Rodding.

The Z/28 was also featured in the January '69 Hot Rod and June '69 Sports Car Graphic. Probably one of the most unusually equipped Z/28s ever built. In addition, was built with the '68 rear stripe layout.

Hot Rod not only tested it, they had free rein to modify it and did. Headers, blueprinted heads, 5.38 gears, aftermarket clutch, flywheel and shifter. The testing ended when the axle failed. Appears it was returned to production specs and sold as a new car.

You would really have to dig, there are some never published photos of it in the Petersen archives. Looks like the tailpipes were painted black in production.
