From what I read on the Super John Camaro, it was built from a body in white shell that DH got from Chevy. His 1967 Funny car was also built from a body in white.

The Super John Camaro was built as a light weight Camaro with gutted front end , fiberglass nose, no front brakes, used a drag chute, 2x4BB Tunnel Ram. They ran in AHRA SS/E or match race trim.

The AHRA SS/E (not the same as NHRA SS/E) cars and match race cars were very fast and popular and became Pro Stock in 1970.

From what I can tell, DH set up the Super John Camaro and ZL-1 #1 , #15 , and #29 as light weight SS/E or match race Camaros.

DH may have built others because these were popular match race money makers.
The ZL-1s that ran in NHRA were set up different.
