Tom's situation reminded me of something that happened to me. A friend called me up many years ago and asked me if I could loan him $1500 to get a rallye green '68 Z minus engine and trans. The car was pretty nice other than missing the drivetrain. I had the money earmarked for something else but wanted to help him get back into a Camaro. I didn't have a place to keep it so instead of me buying it and parking it until he paid me for it, I let him keep it and said if he ever sold it I had right of first refusal. Yep, I was young and stupid. Next time I saw him, the car was gone and I never got my money. It still sucks pretty bad thinking about it all these years later.

Glad you got this worked out. I'm sure you'll keep digging to determine "the rest of the story".
"I found out that the owner I bought the Z from promised Tom the first fight right of refusal when he was ready to sell the car. Tom having the same passion for the car that I do, I completely understanding why he was upset and hurt when he saw that I bought the car." GGGRRRR... unfortunately, this brings back a, still smoldering, screwing I got in 1998 too. I sold my rare 1982 Kawasaki 1100 Spectre, that I bought new to a "friend" cheap, so he had a bike to drive until he found the Harley he wanted with the understanding it only came back to me. He found out he could get 3 times the price of what I sold it to him for and I never saw it again. Seems many of us have had something similar when dealing with cars and motorcycles over a lifetime.
