187 is the Julian date. July 6th in 1970. I don't believe you can tell the year by this number alone.

On the opposite side of this tab there should be another number. 0426 on my 1970.

I took some more pictures. Looks like a "1951" on the back of the tab and "DO" or "D0" on the rod. Any ideas?
