As far as I know, Pontiac was the only other A body to borrow the Chevrolet 12 bolt in '70 for the 455 GTO.

So Dan, what is an asterisk Buick ???

In '70 yes. But believe it or not '69 Skylarks with the lowly 350 Buick got a 12 bolt Chevy - IF THEY WERE BUILT IN THE Oshawa, Ontario Plant.

With the C-clips, the small, non-hardened pinion spider gears and the tapered axles, the 12-bolt would have been no upgrade in a 510 lb-ft '70 Stage 1 over the quite stout Buick 10 bolt with hardened spider gears and 4-pinion posi. It was a very good rear, same with the Pontiac HD Safe-T-Track. Don't know if anybody crunched the numbers at GM back then on warranty claims on diff breakage but I, for one, wouldn't be surprised if the failure rate leaned more towards the Chevy side. Especially if considering 4-speed cars.
