years ago I sold a trans am to a guy and months after he bought it I got a phone call from him wanting his money back because he was sure the car was rebodied because of this very thing. I liked to never have convinced him that is how they came. after checking the hidden vin body numbers and me showing him several examples he finally came around.

I can see how that could happen given that 22387 decodes as base firebird in the printed and online decoders I've seen. I'm guessing that a change in style number format from 1971 to 1972 is not reflected in GM literature. ?? Guess that guy was on strike too !! . I'm interested in any 72 firebird owners chiming in on this. Thanks, Tom
