I painted a refrigerator years ago. Painted it in the kitchen, created a paint booth of newspaper. Still got overspray on everything!
Sanded the body, cleaned well and used an appliance paint - went from white to Harvest gold. I don't know any reason you couldn't use any spray as long as you prep well. There are also epoxy's that you can get in Lowes, too.
